The Mills Grind Slowly
23/11/10 00:20Over two years ago, when we had the kitchen remodeled, we also had the contractor remove the unfortunate wall paper in the front hallway and repaint. We did not, at that time, pull up the filthy beige carpet that covered the tiny hall at the top of the front stairs, and the stairs themselves.
A year ago we pulled up the carpet and roughly six hundred twenty seven thousand eight carpet staples. We discovered that the tiny hall has a nice inlaid wood floor to match the floor in the living room, and that the stairs, uncarpeted, were unpainted, ugly, and full of gaps.
This week I sanded the stairs and painted them. When they're all dry we will put the runners in their correct place. It only took two and a half years, but now it looks very nice. I am filled with the virtue of sweat equity, and I have taupe paint under my nails.
