Observation

Having a puppy is rather like having a baby; you have no life, you get bitten; you get cuddled; and you spend an inordinate amount of time with a sleeping being in your lap, unable to move because you don't want to wake her up. She's very cool.
Meanwhile, I'm learning to have a book with me when I settle down with Emily in my lap. Right now I'm finishing Black Powder War by
naominovik, which is wonderful (I haven't read the first two, because when I was at Baycon the others were sold out). She does great military battle scenes (with dragons!), which I don't think I could ever do. I love finding writers who can do what I can't. Next up is a galley of Delia Sherman's Changeling, which is set in New York. I have (as is well documented) a fondness for both NYC and magic, and I'm looking forward to it. Meanwhile, I'm reading the Physica of Hildegard von Bingen, which is a pageturner....
