We had our decrepit fence replaced with a nice, plain redwood fence of staggered planks (there is likely a proper name for this, but it's not board-and-batten, it's just planks stacked one-over-one-under). While that was going on, we had the Little House in the Back Yard removed--a job of work as that was one solid little structure, with actual electrical wiring and insulation (no plumbing, thankfully). The back yard looks empty but more civilized than it has in... forever.

An unintended consequence of all this? We have a view that we didn't have for the first 15 years of living in this house. And last night, I could watch the sunset from the comfort of my couch. While sipping a glass of wine and writing my Clarion Write-a-Thon words. This is civilization.

My neighbor at the end of the block just put in a fence. It appears to be the cheapest possible wood imaginable -- if it isn't plain pine, it's something like that. Perhaps it will look better once it's weathered a bit, but at this point it catches my eye every time I drive past.

(It's perfectly respectable, and I know nothing about these neighbors, so it's purely an aesthetic gripe.)

ETA that I forgot my initial point, which is that your new fence sounds very fine, and I congratulate you for Getting Things Done, which I mostly but not always tend to be very bad at.
