Beware the Ides of March. (And while we're at it, what is it with the middle of March? Pi Day, the Ides, and St. Patrick all cuddled together. I'm trying to imagine a cake that would be appropriate for all three.)

How about this?

A berry pie with the redness oozing out of a knife-cut in the top crust, decorated with a crozier and some pastry snakes running away.

The red berries are a nice touch. I was thinking more about a knife sticking out of the crust and green food colouring ...

And if you include St Joseph's day, March 19, it's more complicated, at least with pastry (sfingi/zeppole for St Joseph).

A cherry on top and a knife sticking out work fine for a zeppole. With running-away-snakes of zeppole-filling. Or you could make the zeppole shamrock-shaped. And pie-sized.

Alternatively, a pizza-pie with corned beef, and a side of extra marinara for more bloodiness. Zeppole to taste for dessert.
