Beware the Ides of March. (And while we're at it, what is it with the middle of March? Pi Day, the Ides, and St. Patrick all cuddled together. I'm trying to imagine a cake that would be appropriate for all three.)
A cherry on top and a knife sticking out work fine for a zeppole. With running-away-snakes of zeppole-filling. Or you could make the zeppole shamrock-shaped. And pie-sized.
Alternatively, a pizza-pie with corned beef, and a side of extra marinara for more bloodiness. Zeppole to taste for dessert.
Hmm. I'm thinking a stinging-nettle cake with a molten center (with white chocolate colored red for the center) and a knife stuck in made of melted sugar... probably a shamrock on the hilt.
Or something like that. I'm attempting the stinging nettle cake today. It is naturally deep green.
How about this?
