We get rain here in the not-sunny part of California, but rarely thunderstorms. But twice, in three days, there have been brief bursts of severe sturm-und-drang which appeared to be directly overhead. The one the other morning was a short crack of lightning and noise that lit up the house; the one last night was a flash of lightning visually right out side the front window, followed by a long, angry roll of thunder, after which the rain came down in monsoon-like gusts. klages and I were discussing the thunderstorms of our youth (hers in the midwest, mine in the east) which are generally longer, with many lightning strikes and sometimes hours of grumbling. I won't say I'm homesick for thunderstorms, but I rather like them. On the other hand, locals view them with suspicion because they're not a part of usual Bay Area weather behavior, which could be construed as part of a larger climactic change. And Antartica is losing 36 cubic miles of ice a year. But Global Warming is a myth, so it's all good, right?
