So, via Talking Points Memo comes the illuminating tale of incoming GOP congressman Andy Harris of Maryland, who campaigned vociferously against the dreadful, costly dehumanizing Health Care Reform bill, pledging to repeal it. Harris is an M.D. who certainly must know the importance of keeping the gummint out of our health care...
...except that at an orientation session for incoming members of Congress, Harris's questions were all about health care. His and his family's. Apparently the way it works is that congressional benefits don't kick in for a month (which is still more generous than many plans that don't kick in for three months, six months after start of employment). And Harris is outraged that his family has to be without health care for a month.
I do not know what Dr. Harris was doing for health care before (well, he was a state senator, so maybe Maryland covered his health care) but surely he must be eligible for a month of COBRA. Granted, he'd have to pay for it, not Maryland or the US Congress, but at least they'd have that coverage. Just in case he tripped over his own tongue and broke his knee or something.
