I had a pile of freelance work land upon me (which is a good thing: with two kids, one surgery, a dogwalker, and threatening dental work, we slid into one of those "this won't last forever, but right now we're eating a lot of pasta" periods, and more money is good) so I've been putting in 3-5 hours a day on finicking FrameMaker work and taking screencaps and scanning for infelicities of phrase and description. Exciting? No. Well paying? Yes. And my boss on the project is a friend and a delight to work with--we keep each other sane.

I'm also proof-reading a new release for Book View Cafe by [livejournal.com profile] dancinghorse, and if you write anything that has horses in it, you might want to pick this up when it comes out. It's pretty much everything you ever needed to know about horses, so that you don't look like an idiot in print. (Thanks to Dick Francis I found I actually knew some of the material she covers, but much of it has been new and fascinating to me.) Bonus: it's fun and well written, with many links and photos.

And I'm proceeding with the untangling of plot threads in the new (and still unnamed) Sarah Tolerance. Every time I tug on a thread something elsewhere either flops out of the weave and lies there demanding to be reattached, or breaks. How did I become a mystery writer? Feh.

Alllllmost done with the judging on the Endeavor Awards, about which: Hush. One of my co-judges is in France, but is still weighing in via the wonders of the internet. That has nothing to do with anything, except, well: France. Envy.

So right now I'm not so much drafting words as moving toward drafting words. Which is part of the process too. The weekend will be filled with visiting nieces and more breadbaking. And next Tuesday I get my foot, in its slightly achy but mending form, back!
