Yesterday was largely frivolous (and very delightfully so--lunch with
klages overlooking China Basin, and dinner in Palo Alto with friends before seeing a double feature of Notorious and Suspicion). Today was for work. At least some. So while I gathered up all the left over lemon tree detritus--four 30-gallon bags worth!--for the compost truck tomorrow, the Magnificent Spouse did something we've been talking about for a while: he pulled up the really ugly, really dirty carpet in the front hallway. Underneath, as we had hoped but not been certain of, was oak flooring with decorative lamination. It needs to be sanded and varnished, but I can do this. The dog is a little bummed, as the carpet was one of her favorite places to go gnaw on bones. Sorry, dog. I'm so happy that the ugly has been swept back a bit!
