madrobins: It's a meatloaf. Dressed up like a bunny. (citibit)
Today started by sleeping in until noon.  Yeah, you heard me: noon (partly because Becca and Danny stayed up until two a.m. talking, while I read in the other room, but still...)  Then there was a tickle-fight: my 17-year old daughter is not only not too old for the occasional tickle-fight, but she fights dirty.  Then Danny started making oatmeal and blasting Sousa marches.  Because he could.  And then we had a brief discussion about how much we love this country and want to help it live up to its stated goals--and how much we don't flag-wave or sing about America being the Best.  Then we marched around the living room to "Stars and Stripes Forever". My family has weird first-thing-in-the-Holiday-morning rituals, but I like 'em.

And today Danny and I plan to clean up the garage.  Because we can.  While Becca watches West Wing before going to see the fireworks with a vast, teeming horde of teenagers.  And Danny and I will stay home with the dog, who does not like fireworks because they are all aimed at the little dog.

Happy Fourth, y'all.  And for anyone who wanders by who is not American by birth or inclination, happy day: there should be enough joy to spread around the world.
