This morning Avocado and I are going to the DMV where, d.v., she will take and pass her learner's permit exam and be granted the right to drive under adult supervision.

I know there are many people out there with licenses who are not a tenth as smart and cautious as my girl. And yet: Terror. I wonder if my parents were terrified when I got my license? The interior landscape is so different from the exterior...

The girl has her learner's permit, and had a ten-minute first time behind the wheel in a mostly-empty parking lot behind a mall. She did fine for a first time (only confused the brake and gas pedals once), and after ten minutes I asked for the keys back mostly because the responsibility of being The Grownup and yet unable to do anything was wearing on me. But she did fine, and is positively glowing with the joy of it all.
