A Touch of Synchronicity
24/6/10 11:00Last night I caught the last half hour of Waitress, the utterly charming movie about an ace pie maker with the world's most awful husband. As always, the last scene makes me cry; the little girl who plays Jenna's daughter is perfectly adorable, waving and crowing at the waitresses standing outside the diner as she and her mom head for home. In fact, the little girl was played by Sophie Ostroy, and one of the two actresses she was waving to was her real life mother, Adrienne Shelly, who was also the writer and director of Waitress. The thing that makes it not just adorable but sad is that Shelly was murdered by a workman in her apartment some time before Waitress came out.
And as it turns out, today is Adrienne Shelly's birthday. I hope Sophie and her family are celebrating in some nice, un-lugubrious way.
