Gone to Cadettes, every one.
Today YG underwent yet another rite of passage: bridging from the Junior level to Cadette level. Her troop does this at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, which has a gi-normous Japanese moon bridge. The Daisys start out on one side, bridge to the other side where they are greeted by their now-colleagial Brownies. The bridging Brownies cross over to the Juniors, who great them with great clamor (believe me, it's loud loud loud). The bridging Juniors then cross over to be greeted by the Cadettes, and the bridging Cadettes cross over to the Seniors, and the Seniors bridge to adults. (No wonder I'm such a wobbly adult: I never bridged!)
Songs were sung, the Girl Scout pledge and law were recited, and then we went to the tea house for refreshments. It was cold and foggy and dreary, and a pot of tea was a very grateful thing. YG gulped down her hot chocolate and tore off to investigate the garden with her friend Olivia. "So, do you guys feel any different now that you're Cadettes?" I asked. YG flipped her hair. "I suddenly feel terribly sophisticated."
