Okay: so Sarcasm Girl is going out of town for ten days to a vocal training program in LA. We have her airticket, her fees are paid, all is bright and shiny, except that the kid doesn't have an ID. Her school ID may be somewhere in the house, but no one knows where, and a birth certificate, while useful, doesn't have a photo to go with. And the TSA and airline require some sort of ID.

Anyone know of any agency or office in the San Francisco area that might provide an ID for the kid?

edited to add: The DMV can happily provide an ID...in 60 days. I'm not sure about getting a rush passport because she's not going out of the country, but will investigate. If the little Rat had held onto the school ID this wouldn'be be a problem, of course. She has the Press Pass from her school newspaper, she has her birth certificate. I suspect we'll work something out, but it's annoying and likely to be expensive.

later addition: we just found her school ID. That, with her birth certificate, should get her there and back. Another Long National Nightmare averted.

Dammit

Just heard from my tenant in the Berkshires. These are lovely people who have taken excellent care of my house (which is a barn on 6.5 acres of hillside). It has been a great relief to know that the house was in their care for the past 4+ years.

Alas. They have found a house they're buying. While they have a year and a half to go on their lease, they'd just as soon not have to pay for a house they're not using. So they're going to try to find someone to take up the rest of the lease, we're going to do likewise, and I'm going to try really hard not to panic about bills and taxes. In the end, I imagine we're going to have to sell the place--what use do we have for a four-bedroom, 2.5 bath house in the Berkshires with four fireplaces, 40 foot ceilings, and a trapeze in the front hallway? It's pretty much my retirement fund (and the girls' college money, too). But at a moment when things have been feeling fraught, more fraughtness! Whoo hoo.
