All but one child (and that a good friend and a sweet girl who could stay all afternoon without eating my brains) have left. The young watched Hairspray (the musical) and Titanic last night, with time out for pizza and cake and running around the house like floons. Meanwhile, with occasional stops for social course corrections, the Spouse and I hid in our room watching episodes of The Gilmore Girls until 3am (Spouse was the one who kept hitting the return button on my laptop and saying "Hey, just one more episode" until I took the laptop away from him). This morning we all woke at 8:30 and I made a vast number of crepes, which the girls ate with strawberries and chocolate chips and I ate with jam. Then chaos, exchanging of email and cellphone data among the girls who had only just met each other at the party but are now closer than sisters. The capacity of the 12 year old female to bond for life, or the life of a party, with every evidence of sincerity, amazes me; no one I knew had it when I was 12, but maybe I just ran with a bad crowd.

Avocado has a skating lesson this afternoon. Sarcasm Girl (who missed a doctor's appointment and thereby wasted an hour and a half of her dad's time the other afternoon) has an hour and a half of room cleaning to do. Tonight, I expect we will all be grouchy and exhausted, but it's all good. It's all done.
