Jim Rigney, aka Robert Jordan, has died. I was working in production at Tor when the first Wheel of Time book was delivered, and there was a sense that this was the beginning of something big, both for the author and for Tor. If anything, we underestimated the drawing power of the series. Jim was a gentleman of the old Southern school, a graduate of the Citadel, and the husband of Harriet McDougal, herself an editor. He was a man of many kindnesses, and commanded the kind of love and loyalty among his friends and his fans that we would all like to have. It's a loss for the field and for all the people who cared for him. My thoughs are with all of them, but particularly with Harriet.
