On the way to the chiropractor this morning I picked up a copy of a freepaper called The San Francisco Daily. Why did no one tell me? I mean, I've been wasting my time trying to get the good stuff from the Chronicle and the New York Times. But look at the cool things on the front page of the Daily: "Man Guilty of Killing Mom with Nunchucks." "Hiccup Girl Gets a Surprise." And my favorite: "Can UFOs Halt Global Warming?" And the best part is, these are all actual news stories: the UFO story comes from an interview that former Canadian Defense Minister Paul Hellyer gave to the Toronto Sun, suggesting that world governments disclose all that cool alien science they've been hoarding, and use the tech to find alternatives to fossil fuel and stop climate change. Inside the paper there's a piece about futures trading in bird flu which I blogged elsewhere. This paper is like a happy marriage of the Chronicle and the Weekly World News. Why would I ever read anything else?
