22/8/17 19:51 (UTC)When my brother was young--elementary school-age, he got scarlet fever. We had a doctor who made house calls. I was in high school, and not home, so I had to be told this story: When the doctor calmly announced the diagnosis to my mother, she calmly fainted dead away. Still thought of it as a death sentence. . .There were antiobiotics already in the early 60s, and my brother made a quick and complete recovery.
