madrobinsI have sought for years to find the right recording of Katchaturian's Gaynah ballet suite--by which I mean, the one I was raised on, the one that sounds right to me, right speed, right emphasis, etc. It was, of course, an obscure-ish recording done by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra on Parliament Records. It has not been released on CD.
But the Spouse found me an MP3 recording of it. I'm listening now. It is one of the pieces of music that says "winter" to me, and it's right. Sigh. So happy.
