So yesterday afternoon, while Danny and I were seeing Mr. Holmes (perfectly lovely) Becca had taken her car and went off to the beach with a bunch of friends. Or tried to. Somewhere out in the Sunset district the Check Engine light came on, and just before the movie started, she called us to ask what to do. She seemed to think this was sort of an amusing eccentricity on the part of her car--until Danny asked her what the temperature was. What the temperature was was overheated. So she parked, got a ride to the beach, and didn't get home until 11 (that's another rant--her cell phone ran out of battery and communication was...not). Once the movie was over, Danny and I went home, got some coolant and our car, and drove off to find Bec's vehicle. Filled up the radiator and brought the car home with the intention of taking it to the mechanic this morning (Becca asked if we had to. See "amusing eccentricity" above). So this morning we got up, Danny to get ready for work, Becca to get ready for work, me to get ready to be backup driver. Picked up my glasses. One lens fell out. Spent ten minutes trying to do a field repair, which didn't work. So Danny took Becca to work, I walked the dog, he got back, I took our car to the mechanic, following Danny, who drove Bec's car. We're hoping there was no major damage and that whatever happened is a quick and inexpensive fix. Plus, getting car serviced before Kid drives cross-country, always a good thing.
So now everyone is where they are supposed to be (except the eyeglasses people, who are closed on Monday). Happy Monday, all.
By the way: Mr. Holmes? Just wonderful. Ian McKellan is stellar (well, Ian McKellan), but the look, the feel, the thoughtfulness of it is beautiful.
