Rest and Be Thankful*
27/11/14 08:33It is The Day. In a moment I will get up (leaving the snoring dog on the couch) and start the pumpkin pie. Then the turkey, and then other things. There will be Too Much Food, but there will be no shopping, today or tomorrow.
I am thankful for my family, whom I love with a big Love stick. I am thankful that, despite its challenges, I've been able to spend so much time with my Perfect Aunt Julie and her lovely Carmine this year. I am thankful that the girls are thriving and loving college (told you so, kids). I am sad that Danny is with his parents (his dad had a health scare) but happy that we were able to send him East to be there, and beyond thankful that Emil Caccavo will be joining the rest of the establishment for Thanksgiving dinner. Not bad for 97.
I'm thankful for my friends IRL and online, and for the sense of community this gives me in a sometimes-isolated work. I'm hopeful that the coming year will bring better health for many of my friends, and a chance for my country (if it will only take it) to become a better place.
I'm even thankful for the snoring dog.
Eat up and have a lovely day, everyone.
*this was the name of a book I read as a teenager. I think it was supposed to be the name of an inn or resort of some sort--even at the time I found it a little twee, but as a teenager I read everything that came across my path.
