Avocado is upstairs in her finery, waiting to go to a party, surrounded by three slightly less fineried friends. Earlier today she sent off two more college apps (including the Early Decision one to Macalester, her number one). Third finger continues to be painful, but not quite as painful as it was last weekend. Danny and I, both in the throes of a cold, opted to stay home from the party we were bidden to; other than pushing the button on the CSS (I'm fairly sure we won't get any aid, but if you don't buy a ticket it reduces your chances in the lottery) I have done nothing much today. (Okay, I changed the sheets on my bed and made dinner, but I'm still no good for much of anything else). Emily, perhaps intuiting that there will be Narsty Loudness in a couple of hours, is hiding out in my room.
And in a little less than four hours the ball will drop and it will be 2014. I will open the door to let old year out and new year in (stale year is nothing you want to have clinging to the curtains).
I wish each and all of you who wander by here a good, safe, healthy, productive, fun 2014. In the words of Gracie Lou Freebush, "I really do want world peace."
