We have had perfect weather: Friday was gray and blowy, with a thunderstorm in the evening just as I got back from a run to Target. Yesterday was gray and cold (with occasional bits of startling blue in the sky, and a sunset to file away in memory). A perfect autumn day for Becca's tour of Macalester, which she really, really, really liked. I'm not saying that Grinnell has been knocked out of first place, but she really did like Macalester a whole bunch. Then back to the hotel for a massive homework-in (I worked on BVC book-keeping, thereby establishing that I was doing homework in solidarity and stuff).
Today we rose on a perfect, perfect, perfect sunny cool morning and rode the light rail down for brunch with Will and
coffeeem. Excellent food (who knew that a wild rice burger could be so good) and drink (Angry Orchard Ginger Cider. Yum). And the best conversation. Bec, I am pleased to say, held her own in this august company. I think she might consider going to Macalester just for the occasional chance to see Emma and Will. Then we went down town, wandered through the North Loop a bit, and took in the wonderful sculpture garden (I think my favorite thing was Frank Gehry's huge glass fish in the greenhouse, but the spoon and cherry are wonderful too). Then home, by slow stages, to the hotel. I went out to get pizza and returned victorious. Now we're back to homework again, because we are dripping with virtue.
Mañana, en la manana, Carleton. And then the airport, and a flight home. On Tuesday morning, before work, I go pick up Emily from the Dog Hotel, where she has languished. Silly dog.
