madrobins: It's a meatloaf. Dressed up like a bunny. (citibit)

I'm not sure what she's triumphed over (other than, perhaps, the forces of evil...an ongoing battle) but Avocado, aka Becca, will be coming home tomorrow.  She was voted by her peers to give the "graduation speech", and has otherwise been having a hell of a time, all the while working her butt off on her AP course.

On Tuesday they had an astonishing array of speakers, including Mark Takano (the California teacher-turned congressman who lately and quite famously marked up another congressman's letter asking everyone to vote against an immigration bill: gave it an F) and Ed Meese, of Iran-Contra fame.  When Mark Meadows, R-NC, spoke, Avocado asked him:

"You were quoted saying that Obama supporting family planning clinics like Planned Parenthood is an
infringement on many Americans' religious freedoms. Considering the First Amendment says that
Congress shall make no law concerning an establishment of religion, I was wondering if you could
expand on your views of separation of church and state?"

My understanding is that Meadows was not forthcoming: took a swipe at her for saying that the separation of church and state is in the First Amendment (it isn't, nor did she say it was) and then wandered off into the ozone of not answering her question.

But really: I've had the raising of this child.  I know better than to give her a non-response response.

Also: it will be nice to have her home.  I realize I'm kind of fond of her.  Urk. Her senior year starts in 2 weeks.
