So Avocado (or as I call her, Becca) has gotten into politics and policy stuff in a big way.  Part of this was joining Junior State of America, a group for high school students to try-on the experience of creating legislation and trying to get it passed.  They have various local meetings, state-wide "congresses," a national convention, and sponsor various local events.  The other night Julian and Joaquin Castro (the show-stoppers at last summer's Democratic National Convention were in San Francisco, and the kid organized a JSA group at her school to go hear them speak.  In fact, she got face-time with them (and got a mention in the SF Chronicle, too).

Now the newly formed Balboa HS JSA chapter has its sights set on the February State Congress in Sacramento.  Which costs $100+ for attendees.  Like many urban schools, Balboa doesn't have the money to support this, and many of the students who want to go won't be able to...unless (as they say in the ASPCA ads) you help.  They've established a fundraising site to raise money to help the kids who can't get there on their own, and to pay for a charter bus to Sacramento. I add, with significant maternal pride, that this is pretty much all due to Avocado's considerable organizational power.

If you want to encourage responsible citizenship and have a fiver or so to toss around, you might consider helping them out.

Got the copyedit on the book formerly known as The Salernitan Women (and occasionally known as The Damned Italian Book). It is now called Sold for Endless Rue, and it's scheduled for release in May--just in time for Wiscon. This pleases me.

I'm still thinking about the cover--it's not the approach I had expected, but it's pretty.
