Hot and Heavy in Cakeland

klwilliams and
desperance are getting married tomorrow! Which means, after months of planning, I am up to my ears in wedding cake. All the tiers have been baked; the top two have been crumb coated and left in the freezer (no functional reason to freeze 'em--I just wanted them out of the way, because the bottom two tiers take up space in my over-burdened fridge). Last night was "make the bottom two tier cakes--which means two layers, 10" and 12". Since it's a chocolate beetroot cake, I graded 12 cups of beets last night--my hands looked like something from a Barbie convention: Pink. I also gilded a lot of the decorative bits--silver, copper, brass--to go on the final cake. Tonight, I make huge quantities of Swiss meringue buttercream, and start to frosting.
