Okay, I've got a dog in this fight: I proofed this book and got to re-read all Laura Anne Gilman's pithy, humorous, and valuable weekly columns of advice for writers. It's not the usual show-don't-tell or write-whatcha-know; it's things like How to Break Up with Your Agent. The professional stuff. And it's invaluable.

BVC is delighted to present Laura Anne Gilman's Practical Meerkat's 52 Bits of Useful Info for Young (and Old) Writers.
Writing is a craft. Publishing is a business. Today's world requires you to understand both.

A year's worth of first-hand advice from the popular "Practical Meerkat" series, including:

*Knowing When Not to Complain (and how to do it)
*Bar Schmoozing with the Big Dogs (even if you don't drink)
*Dealing with a Difficult Editor/Agent

and 49 more!

Laura Anne Gilman has been an editor since 1990, including 7 years heading the Roc SF imprint for Penguin. As a writer, she has twenty-five novels and forty+ stories to her name. A freelancer since 2003, she hasn’t starved yet. She figures all this gives her the ability to talk a bit about the industry.

I'm drawing to a close on my "Raised in a Barn" series, but I've got one last one up at the BVC blog today. It's about sleepovers. And stealth. And thinking you can put one over on your parents.
