Okay, along with the household sturm und drang that seems to go with having a teenager in the house, today the dog-walker set the alarm off twice and my cousin called to tell me my Aunt Linda had fallen and broken her hip; sadly, because she's over 90 and pretty frail, she's not a good candidate for surgery, which means she's unlikely to heal and survive on her own.

Could we have some puppies and daisies for a while? Please?

Dragon of Mishbil (fantasy) by Brenda W. Clough

Who Dares to Tame the Dragon?

The River Bilcad is called a dragon, for without its complex network of canals, it can destroy the city of Mishbil. Princess Zaryas, youthful viceroy of the city, learns that movements in the earth have rendered the canals useless. Mishbil will die of thirst. Brash young Magus Xerlanthor wants to use muscle and magic to dam the river and refill the canals...and to win Zaryas' heart. Zayras must bet everything, not knowing if her choices will lead to a double triumph-or a double disaster.

existence (complex as all get-out) together for what proves to be a fine
blend, and a very good read, offering physical, psychological, and
metaphysical insights into the human condition, along with the sometimes
delightfully outlandish action that drives the best of pulp fiction." The
New York Times Book Review says, "Ms. Clough has an appealingly cheeky
imagination."
