Went to her lovely low-key birthday party last night, where I met and talked with excellent people, and wished the Birthday Woman joy, and brought cake (ginger-spice with vanilla buttercream and fondant decorations, for those playing along at home).

There were a pair of toddler-twin-girls who were much taken with the tiny stars and hearts and moons, and the more assertive of them kept experimentally poking her finger toward the icing with intent to taste, only to be caught out by eagle-eyed grownups on the lookout for such attempts. But really: what is frosting for but to tempt the ambitions of two-year-olds?
