That's what you get when you have a dog who isn't sure what's hit her.
Emily is home, on strict rest, and taking many pills (two antibiotics, one pain killer, one anti-anxiety tranq, plus a spritz of liquid anti-inflammatory). She must be confined in a small room, or in her crate, or on strict leash control. And she's got a serious incision with many staples running up the inside of her poor shaved leg. Avocado is so full of pity for the dog that she's almost useless, but this did allow us an interesting conversation about parenthood and staying calm and in control even when your insides are queasy with anxiety and empathy.
I keep telling Em that this won't be forever. I don't know that she believes me, but I am happy to say that her appetite has not deserted her, which suggests that she's merely subdogged and not depressed.
