That was a hell of a good day. Above, the poster for the show. And here's the cake I made to go in the band room:

We got to the venue about 1:30, got everything in the band room set up (oh, man, did these people eat well. Deborah Grabien, the Goddess and Mover and Shaker of the organization and the event, also catered). And then we sat around, or did small errands, or sent out for ice, or... stuff. Soundcheck happened. The show, proper, started at 7. The particular knock-outs were Julian Dawson and, of course, Richard Thompson. Who did many of the songs I love ("1952 Vincent Black Lightning", "Dimming of the Day," "Down Where the Drunkards Roll") and some things I was less familiar with ("Persuasion," "Sidney Wells" about which he said "I always feel an evening's entertainment isn't complete without a good murder ballad," "Waltzing's for Dreamers"). He did some killer covers, including a goofy Frank Loesser song, "Dog Eat Dog in Denmark," and "Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon," and the Lovin' Spoonful's "You and Me and Rain on the Roof," which is such a perfect little song.
The concert wound up about midnight, and we got everything cleaned up and into the car by 1:30 (half an hour better than we'd hoped) and I was home by 2:30.
And by the way: the cake was spice, with vanilla buttercream.
