I was working at Tor when they released Sherwood Smith and Dave Trowbridge's Exordium books; I'm not usually a space opera fan, but these are simply wonderful, rich and fun and full of adventure energy. And so I'm really pleased, even more pleased than usual, to say that today Book View Café is releasing the Exordium: The Phoenix in Flight by Sherwood Smith and Dave Trowbridge as an ebook.

Brandon nyr-Arkad, the Emperor's scapegrace youngest son, defies protocol and evades a ceremonial duty, a defiance punishable by death. He's just ahead of an attack on the Panarchy of the Thousand Suns by Eusabian, a revenge twenty years in the making.

Phoenix in Flight begins the five volume arc of Exordium, as Brandon discovers what happened to his home after he left, and he has to make a decision: stay an outlaw, or return and deal with the smoking ruins of his rejected world?

Sherwood Smith and Dave Trowbridge are longtime science fiction readers as well as writers

For those who cannot get enough of me going on and on about something, I'm trying to do a weekly column at my website. This week's piece is on how I've been subverting the bedtime story to my own dark purposes.

And yes, Avocado has been asking for bedtime stories of late. The striving toward grownuphood is an upndown process.

The Donald has decided not to run for president.
“I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election,” Mr. Trump said, adding, “Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion, and I am not ready to leave the private sector.”

Seth Meyer must be so sad.

Meanwhile, I just got a call from my husband, who has had a rain-related fender-bender. It's his first accident ever in 55+ years (of riding and driving), and I think he's feeling mortified by it. Poor sweetie. He's okay, which is the importantest part. The car, alas, is a bit the worse for wear. We will soldier on, but really, did we need this?
