FogCon So Far
12/3/11 22:37I'm having a good time. Many familiar faces, small con but a merry and responsive one. Last night I had a perfectly splended dinner with
desperance,
klwilliams, Kit Kerr and her husband, and a few others, at a perfectly swell Thai restaurant, then returned to the con to do my first panel, on how to blow up cities for fun and profit (with Pat Murphy, Jeff Vandemere, Gary Kloster and Elwin Cotman) which despite the lateness of the hour (9:30-10:45!) went nicely. The Spouse picked me up and brought me home, because he's nice and public transportation after 11 is, um, problematical in this town.
This morning, bright and early, went back. I wanted to sit in on a panel at 10:30 ("The Lightning Wrath of the Internet"), then there was the lunch break (spent chatting with various hands) and then I was on a panel from 1:30-2:45 called "I Have Written the Greatest Story Ever...No, Wait, it Sucks..." about the mood-swings inherent in writing. Daniel Marcus, the moderator, had suggested discuss the topic using the Seven Deadly Sins. Of course I drew Lust. It all worked out well (we had really good audiences for both of my panels). I sat in on "The Menace of the Spoiler," which went into some really interesting places (what's the difference between a trigger warning and a spoiler?) and then to Pat Murphy's guest presentation (in which the audience was required to write a short story--with considerable coaching and guidance from Pat, of course). Then another really good dinner, this time with
davidlevine and
kateyule and Pat Murphy. Then came back and did my reading (first ten pages of The Sleeping Partner and appear to have done well). Finally, in the calm conviction of a day well spent, went home.
I really want to see the "Reclaiming Urban Fantasy" panel tomorrow, and to hear Pat read. Then there will be plenty of work I haven't done around the house.
