I twist my ankle. I swear to God, did someone drop my on my head? I was breaking in my new Shape-Ups, stepped wrong (it's always my right damned ankle) and pffft. Fortunately the dog doesn't run away when I fall down; she stands over me with an adorable crease in her doggy forehead, as if to say "My Human Got Broken Again! Whassup with that?" So we made it home. I have done the canonical RICE+ (rest, ice, compression, elevation+arnica and Advil), and I am by no means crippled; it just hurts a bit. Not sure we're going to make it all the way to the dog park today.

And about the ubiquity and dubious whateverthehell of social media and stuff...I can remember some birthdays when, single and living in a new place, with a family that would remember but not necessarily make a fuss, my birthday felt like the most depressing day of the year. And I've never been good at the sort of "Hey, today's my birthday, you can all say Happy Birthday now" angling which may constitute healthily asking for what I need, but just feels slightly pathetic when I do it.
This year, between emails and the odd post and an astonishing Wall of Birthday Wishes on Facebook, I feel tremendously...I don't know. Acknowledged? It's not that all these people remembered my birthday (though some did). It's that, being reminded of it, so many people took a moment to say Happy Birthday. It makes the day cheery in a way that I would never have anticipated before the wonders of the Web.
Just another unanticipated benefit of Living in the Future.

And to Entertain You All
7/12/10 10:30I wrote a post for the Book View Cafe blog this morning on the Joys of Being a Writing Mom. Now I am going off to actually, like, write and stuff.
I rented a car via City Car Share today for a brief trip this afternoon. I left my cell phone in the damned car. It is now booked until 9. I have reserved the car for after that, so I can go down, pick up the phone, and come back. Assuming, as I must, that the right-thinking sort of people who go in for shared-vehicle-rental are the sorts who will leave my phone where it is.
I swear to God my brain is just leaking out my ears.
ETA Got my phone back. Huzzah.
