I always thought that Ringo Starr was undervalued. My husband, aka "Mr Ears," the Gray Eminence of rec.art.music.beatles, has many rants on Ringo--he's not a technically superlative drummer, but his "feel" is impeccable, etc. I don't speak this language, but I'm willing to believe it's true. Plus, Ringo was the oldest of the Beatles, arguably the least photogenic, the one who was sort of played for comic effect (all the way through Help!, certainly).

Tomorrrow he turns 70. He's celebrating with a concert at Radio City Music Hall. And he asks that everyone, at noon tomorrow, flash the peace sign and say "peace and love."

I'm for it. As he said when asked what the chances are of getting peace and love this year, "I think the more we promote it, the more chance we have of getting it." Sing it, brother.
