As I hared off to Avocado's school this afternoon to oversee some stuff (making sure she had cleaned out her locker--which she had dragged her feet on for two weeks--so we could find some books her Drama teacher says A is holding on to*), my shoe turned and I fell as I was crossing the street and putting my hand in my pocket to fish out my debit card. All the contents of my pocket--a couple of credit cards, my driver's license, Costco card, etc.--fell on the ground, and I hastily scooped them up, ran to the ATM, and caught my bus.
It wasn't for an hour that I discovered that my driver's license and our most-used credit card had not boarded the bus with me.
When I got home I called the credit card company. "Oh, yes, we have a hold on that card. Someone called in to say she'd found it. Our procedure is to close the account and send you new cards. Will that be okay?"
Oh, yes, that would be perfectly lovely.
And then, an hour later, a woman rang the bell to return my driver's license, so I don't have to get that replaced.
You know, sometimes the human race is really all right.
