Aftermath: Slight puffiness on the right side of my face--slight enough that if you met me for the first time you likely wouldn't notice it--and no pain, just that sensation that follows pain, of something having happened at the site. I am told that I fell asleep while watching TV; Spouse came home around 10pm to find me in bed with the TV going. I have no recollection of this. But sleep is the healer of us all, and it seems to have started its good work.

Today: get the writing done that I should have done yesterday. Make fudge. Tidy up a bit. Drag Emily. Then, go to SF in SF, where Jedediah Berry and Laurie R. King are reading. Return home to the dulcet sounds of Avocado and two friends having a sleepover. Sounds like Saturday to me.

And I have discovered that in the latest revamp of The Joy of Cooking* they took out the recipe for Caramel Cream Fudge, which is the favored fudge of the Non Chocolate Eater in the household. Fortunately, because I am lazy, I had not tossed the old Joy, so was able to find the recipe, and the candy is now cooling down so I can beat it into submission a proper consistency. And now I'm not throwing out the old Joy, because who knows what else they took out in their zeal for modernity.

*Whenever I look at the Joy now I hear Meryl Streep channeling Julia Child on meeting Erma Rombauer: "Mrs. Joy!"
