Avocado's Drama program has been producing a student-version of an operetta every year for about nine years; this year it was Donizetti's Daughter of the Regiment, with three trained professionals (as Marie, Tonio and Sulpice) and students in all the other roles. It's scaled down, of course, to about 45 minutes, the attention span of your average middle school audience. And Our Avocado, commanding and comical, had the student lead as The Marquise of Birkenfeld. It was swell; I kvell. Now I take the dog to the park.
