Oh Dear, Redux
20/7/09 12:18We called Avocado at camp this morning. just to see how she's doing.
Just fine, sounded bubbly and happy and the bus ride up to camp was great. The only fly in her personal ointment?
She was hit in the head with a softball on Saturday.
Okay, it doesn't sound grave. 1) They would have called us immediately if there had been a real problem. 2) No loss of conciousness, no bleeding, and the "line drive straight to my ear" apparently hit her just behind her ear and glanced, rather than hitting her directly. Even so, she's got a goose-egg, and is still complaining of tenderness (no headaches, no dizziness, no head-related nausea). The camp nurse very sensibly checked in with the doctor, observed for problem signs over the weekend, and today, decided to take her up to the local hospital to be checked out and get an X-ray, just in case. "I didn't want to have them irradiate her head if there wasn't a need to, but I want to make sure that swelling isn't a problem."
They will call me to report when they have something reportable. I'm not anticipating bad news. But I kind of wish that these sorts of things would stop happening. Just because, see.
ETA: The doctor recommends ice twice a day, Advil as needed, and not getting hit in the head with softballs.
