madrobins: It's a meatloaf. Dressed up like a bunny. (Default)
Emily had serious cabin fever yesterday during the rain--no epic drag, no leaping into the air, no going outside (she hates water, particularly rain, and we could barely get her outside for bathroom purposes).

So today I took her to the park and gave her extra time. Threw balls for her for an hour and half. Of course the park was muddy, and it didn't take long for my dalmatian-esque dog to be covered in mud. I put a blanket in the back of the car, but even so, the seat has mud on it. So after the park, it was off to Pawtrero Baths (a pet shop and dog-wash in Potrero Hill). Emily hates water. So of course she detests baths. On the other hand, she loves the turkey patties she gets as a treat, post-bath. So when we arrive at Pawtrero Baths she doesn't know whether to dance with glee or cower. So she dances and cowers (she's a talented dog). I got her into the tub, rinsed her, lathered with Mango Tango shampoo, rinsed again, re-lathered, rinsed a third time. Even with that, the towels with which I rubbed her down were brown with dirt.

She got her turkey patties and now lies, head in the Spouse's lap, groaning softly in her sleep, glowing with an almost supernatural whiteness. Until tomorrow, when it's supposed to rain again.
