• I am back. The weather in Port Townsend was balmy and mostly clear, and they have the nerviest deer I have ever seen (we were staying at Fort Worden Park, site of the wedding). The bride (the fighter jet pilot) and the groom (the transport pilot) were happy as can be, the party was swell, and many things in my bridal kit came in handy. Thanks, all who suggested.
• While I was gone, I brought my iBook in to be serviced, since the track pad had been freezing on me for about two months. What I did not expect was tht this would require a new hard drive and a new case. All covered under Apple Care, which is nice. But I didn't back up before I turned the thing in to Apple, and I'm going to have to spend the next couple of days reconstructing my life and software.
• George Carlin. Fuck, man. I was kinda hoping he'd be one of those guys who lived forever. Cardinal Glick has gone to the Great Golf Course in the sky.
• Today while driving off to pick up cake-decorating supplies I heard the first ad for engagement/wedding rings that took advantage of California's new marriage rulings (three different voices--a man's talking about spending a little more than he'd planned on an engagement ring for Wendy, but she'll be wearing it for always; a woman's talking about how long she and Julie had been planning this day; and a man talking about finding the perfect ring with Rick). This made me unaccountably cheerful.
• My homework for cake-decorating class is to make a batch of decorator's buttercream (which involves special confectioner's sugar without cornstarch, special shortening, meringue powder, and clear vanilla extract), and bake and prep a cake for decorating tomorrow night. This is a non-trivial exercise. Maybe there will be pictures.
• Gave blood this morning, but my children still refuse to be nice to me. Pfui.
