madrobins: It's a meatloaf. Dressed up like a bunny. (Default)
Paul Scofield has died, aged 86. He was not one of those performers with a huge range--he wore his intelligence too openly to easily play a stupid person. But he could do evil, and he could do complex, and he could do--so well that I'm not sure anyone else will ever overtake him on it--complex nobility, as Thomas More in A Man for All Seasons. 86 is a good age, I suppose...but the world's a little dimmer tonight.

Arthur Clarke, Anthony Minghella, Paul Scofield. Can this stop now, for a bit?
