Oh Dear

There's a moment in the film Juno when the lead character, a bright, snarky 16-year old, asks why the people who are hoping to adopt her baby don't adopt a child from China. "'Cause I hear they give away babies like free iPods." Okay, a little harsh, but the kid who's saying it is dealing with an experience way above her maturity level, and dealing as she usually deals: with snarky humor.

Of course there's a fracas about it.

I gotta say, I'm with Reitman and Cody on this one. I am--because I'm not a 16-year-old Sarcasm Queen--sorry that people's feelings were hurt. But it's a work of fiction, and they're creating character through dialogue, which is what they're supposed to do; it's not a documentary, and Juno MacGuff is not a spokesperson or politician.
