Cranky Note

To the copywriting world in general: "Reverend" modifies Mister. As in The Reverend Mr. Smith. "Reverend Smith" is a reach (like speaking of someone as "Honorable Jones," which might work if you're writing farce but not otherwise. Totally not right is a usage like "A popular reverend is suspected of murder when...*" No such damned animal. If you're talking about the person who officiates at a Protestant church there are a budget of terms: minister, clergyman, vicar, parson, pastor, man (or woman) of the cloth.
