Well, the cornmeal pie crust didn't work so well (I gave up and used the traditional recipe, rather than waste the pumpkin) and the pumpkin that I had roasted and rendered into pumpkin goo had unaccountably developed alien life forms, so I fell back on a can of canned pumpkin. The butternut squash lasagna turned out beautifully--except for the fact that, as I pointed out to Avocado when she proposed it, no one in the family likes squash very much. But the stuffing and turkey and cranberry sauce and salad and pies turned out excellently well. Between the main meal and dessert we played MadGab. After dessert the girls watched Legally Blonde: The Musical on, of all things MTV, while the spouse and I retired to our room and watched The Incredibles, which we both adore.

And my husband, who is a hero of the revolution, did all the dishes.

Now, the slow, inevitable, highly commercialized slide into Christmas. And lots of leftovers in the meantime.

is charming. And funny. And uncomfortable. It has made of me a Steve Carrell fan. And I think I want to be Juliette Binoche when I grow up.
