madrobins: It's a meatloaf. Dressed up like a bunny. (Default)
We broke down and took Emily to the vet yesterday after she passed some blood in her stool; consensus is that she's a sweetie, obviously healthy, and probably has enteritis of some sort. So they did some tests, prescribed Flagyl and a bland diet, and she came home all interesting and relieved to be out of the doctor's office. Examination: $83; Prescription: $15; Tests: $52. Knowing the dog isn't dying: Priceless.

Meanwhile, Sarcasm Girl has chosen the schools she's going to apply to this year, and is feeling (justifiably) overwhelmed by the process and the meaning of it all: she's really going to college, she's really going away, she's really growing up. Gulp. So, in order to reduce her stress level a bit, I'm coming up with a game plan: a timeline of when to do what. The process will be hugely simplified by the fact that you apply once to the UC system for however many of the UC schools you're interested in (and online, too); you apply once to the CSU system if you're interested in a Cal State school (also online); and three of the private colleges she's interested in use something called Commonapp, an online service which will send an application to each of the schools, plus online supplemental materials. The one hold out college that isn't a UC, a CSU, or on the Commonap system, also has an online application. But boy, has the process changed dramatically since My Day.

And YG is back at synchronized skating again. This year we're starting in the fall, so that I got to go to the parents' meeting and find out all the things that I didn't actually understand before. What I understand is that it's expensive and a huge sink of time and energy. And I already knew that. Still, the kid looks awfully swell out there on the ice.
