madrobins: It's a meatloaf. Dressed up like a bunny. (Default)
This morning I stood in line at Borders to pick up my orange wristband, which will permit me to be in the first group to pick up our copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows after midnight, tonight (this is Borders' answer to the problem of organizing people. Standing there, drinking the tiny cups of coffee that Borders was handing out, munching a sliver of Butterfinger Brownie, ditto, I bonded with two other women in the line, and felt myself part of a phenomenon in the same way I did standing in line for Star Wars the first time, or going to see the premiere of Pocahontas in Central Park. We chatted about Snape (redeemable or evil?) and Ron-and-Hermione, and the spoilers on the internet and who we'd like to see come out of the story alive (and the mutable nature of death in the HP universe), a happy half hour or so of geekery, surrounded by my fellow geeks.

Tonight SG and I are going to the Deathly Hallows ball--she as Bellatrix LeStrange, me as Dolores Jane Umbridge. I mean, why not? This is the last book, if I'm ever going to be completely silly about the whole thing, this is my shot.
