Temporary Relief
26/11/06 23:17When I was a kid, just after we moved out of New York, my father kept up his design business by going down to the city from our home in Massachusetts for a few days every week. He kept a drawing table and some design supplies in the tiny apartment he kept in the city, but most of his time was spent going to meetings, making proposals, etc. He used to say that he knew the location of every bathroom in every mid-town hotel (this was in the days before the homeless made ready access to bathrooms problematical). Since he no longer had his design office on Madision Avenue, toilet location was sometimes a matter of urgency. Which is why I think he'd be charmed by the notion of Charmin's temporary temple of toilets on Seventh Avenue. Not only clean public bathrooms, but uniformed greeters, and a lounge with comfy chairs in which to linger once you have relieved yourself. Alas, the Temple will only be there through the end of December. It makes me want to make a trip home, just to see.
