Got up this morning, feeling fine...and the power cord to my iBook died. A result, I suspect, of people tripping over the cord one too many times: the wire nearest the connector frayed and started spitting and crackling. Fortunately, Spouse came home and fixed the wire temporarily.

Meanwhile, I still need to register the iBook with AppleCare, which doesn't seem to want to register me on line. I went off to buy a new power cord and found that none of the local Apple stores had one. All out, don't know when they'll get another. Arg.

So I got very little of a work-nature done today. I did, however, finish the initial scraping of the downstairs front hall walls. Everywhere you go in the house there are little shreds of silver and copper foil and paper. I've come to the conclusion that we're going to need to put new paper up rather than painting. Further, I want to hire some brawny pro to do it. I've done my bit with the demolition; let someone who knows what he's doing come in and make it pretty.

I think I need a drink now. It's been a long day.

For those who are relatively local and just can't get enough culture and stuff, I'll be reading on Saturday, November 11 at Writers With Drinks, at the Make-Out Room on 22nd Street between Mission and Valencia. The event starts at 7:30pm, but I'm advised that the good tables up front are usually taken by 7:10. I'm one of six people reading, and it sounds like it's going to be fascinating. Come have a drink and hear some reading, why dontcha?
