Thinking about the current project (which I do a lot of--the thinking part, that is) I realized that this book will take place over about forty years. It's, like, a saga. I've never written a saga before; with the exception of two short stories, everything I've written has been, essentially, the story of an episode in the lives of its characters, not a whole life story. I have once again decided to do something I've never done before, which creates in me great stacks of auctorial neurosis.
Of course, the last few books I've written have been things I've never done before--after five Regency romances written in my salad days, I wrote an urban fantasy. After the urban fantasy I wrote an historical mystery (which returned to the Regency, but a whole different sort of Regency than that occupied by Heyer et al.). And now I'm playing in a time/place about which I'm only beginning to learn, and I'm writing a saga.
All this is by way of saying, if I break out in auctorial bedsores every now and then, just ignore me. It seems to be part of my process. Eh.
