Best in Show, 9:12 am

This morning YG had her first skating competition. This required that we get up at 6am (on a Sunday, dammit!) and that the child shower and get her costume on (with clothes over it, so she didn't freeze to death), and that I pull her soft flyeverywhere hair off her face, and get some food into her, and pack up a bag with various bits and pieces including her makeup (!), all so that we could be delivered downtown to the skating rink by 7:45. Where, of course, registration didn't open until 8am, and anyway the coffee dispensing machine was out of order. The kid went out and warmed up and practiced with all her fellows, looking like the oddest combination of World's Most Beautiful Kid and klutz. Her dad and sister showed up at 9, and finally at 9:12 she had her 60 seconds in the sun: crossing her skates over, going backward, doing a little hop, and finishing (big finish) with a spin. She was gorgeous. We waited around to get her scores (she and the girl who went immediately after her were scored together) and the kid came in first (out of two) and got her picture taken on a little plinth with her First Place ribbon. Then we all went out for breakfast.

Now we are finishing up the taxes. 8-(
